Jazz Night at Albert Long Hall

Attending a jazz concert can be an unforgettable experience for any music lover and I recently had the chance to attend a jazz choir concert performed by our music club, BÜMK. The performance of the choir has left me in awe and each song had a unique impact on me and evoked different emotions and feelings. The choir sang seven pieces without instruments and each piece had a unique flavour that made the concert an extraordinary experience. The  seven songs they sang were “I Got Rhythm”, “Moondance”, "Stand by Me", "Here Comes the Sun", "Fly Me to the Moon", " The Lion Sleeps Tonight" and "Ben Seni Bulmuş Iken." I couldn’t explain every bit of the experience, but there are some moments that I want to share with you.

The third song, "Stand by Me", evoked a sense of comfort and reassurance in me. The choir's rendition of the song was powerful, and their harmonies were mesmerizing. Especially the part of the song, "When the night has come; And the land is dark, And the moon is the only light we'll see; No, I won't be afraid; No, I won't be afraid; Just as long as you stand; Stand by me.", resonated deeply within me, evoking the same desire and feeling in the song for someone in my life. I think everyone in the audience has thought of someone in their lives or wanted to think of someone at that moment. Who would you think that you would think if you were in one of the seats that night in Albert Long Hall listening to these captivating lyrics from an amazing choir?

The fifth song, "Fly Me to the Moon," was one of the songs that starts me to listen to jazz when I was in high school. So that piece of the song touched my heart differently and I found myself humming along with the choir in my seat. The familiarity of the melody and lyrics filled me with feelings of joy and nostalgia.

The sixth song, “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”, was a highlight of the concert for me. The choir's ability to create the sounds of the wild through their voices was astounding. The choir's sound effects and animal imitations like the sound of a breeze or a lion roaring, literally brought the soul of the jungle onto the stage. I particularly enjoyed so much watching one of my close friends make monkey sounds, which added a touch of humour to the performance. Shortly, the choir's ability to bring the soul of the song onto the stage was truly remarkable.

Lastly, as the seventh song, the choir sang "Ben Seni Bulmuş İken," and it was a perfect ending to the concert by creating a calming and enchanting effect on the audience. The lyrics were so powerful that I found myself closing my eyes and soaking in the energy of the music. While I close my eyes, I allowed myself to be lost in the music, feeling the warmth and closeness of a friend. I might even say that the slow and peaceful rhythm of the song took me on a spiritual journey. In other words, the soothing melody and the choir's harmonies were truly remarkable and letting the music wash over me was a beautiful and serene moment.

When the concert was over, I felt a mix of emotions. I was sad that the concert had ended, but at the same time, I felt happy and fulfilled. We, as the audience, wanted them to play one more song, and when the audience shouted "Jungle," the choir played it again. The concert ended with everyone giving a standing ovation and I left the saloon with great pleasure thanks to an amazing choir and a sincere chorusmaster.

In conclusion, the jazz choir concert performed by BÜMK was an incredible experience that left a lasting impression on me. The choir's talent, enthusiasm, and passion were evident in every song they sang. They brought each song to life, and I could feel the emotions in their voices. The concert was a real testament to the power of music to bring people together and create unforgettable experiences by making the audience swish around different emotions.
